When is a refresh the right choice?
A refresh is the right choice when your Glasgow kitchen has a working layout, sound cabinet carcasses and a tired visible finish that pulls the room down.
Refreshes suit tenement flats where a full refit is disruptive and disproportionate to the room's size, and rental properties between tenants where cost and turnaround matter more than a top-spec finish.
How does a Glasgow refresh happen day by day?
A Glasgow kitchen refresh runs day by day: day 1 protect and start door swap, days 2–4 fit new doors, drawer fronts and handles, days 5–6 template worktops, days 7–8 fit new worktops and splashbacks, days 9–10 sink, tap, paint and snag.
A quartz or stone worktop adds a 7–10 day templating gap between days 6 and 7. Laminate worktops skip the gap because they are cut on site. The client can usually cook and wash throughout the refresh with only 2–3 days of full disruption.
How does the finish compare to a full refit?
A refresh delivers 80–90% of the visual impact of a full refit at 30–40% of the cost, because the human eye reads the room by its doors, worktops and handles more than its carcass boxes.
The trade-off is layout: a refresh can't move the sink, hob or fridge. If services must move, the refresh path is wrong and a full refit is the correct scope.
What makes a Glasgow refresh different?
A Glasgow refresh is different because tenement doors sit inside deep skirting-lined openings, plinths often need scribing to uneven tenement floors, and access for delivery is up shared closes rather than through a driveway.
Our fitters measure the doors on site rather than trusting the original spec — older Glasgow tenement kitchens were often assembled with non-standard 715 mm door heights or bespoke widths that need factory-cut replacements.
What are the limits of a refresh?
The limits of a Glasgow kitchen refresh are that it cannot move plumbing or gas, cannot change layout, cannot upgrade cabinet carcasses and cannot add or remove a wall.
If two or more of those limits bite, a full refit will pay back better than pushing a refresh beyond its scope. A Glasgow Kitchen Fitters designer will call it honestly at the survey — a refresh you'll outgrow is not a saving.
