What happens at first-fix plumbing?
First-fix plumbing runs new hot, cold and waste pipes to the sink, dishwasher and washing machine positions shown in the design.
Pipes are fixed and pressure-tested while the walls are open. Waste runs need a steady fall to the stack, which is the main limit on how far a sink moves in a Glasgow tenement or semi.
What electrical work does a kitchen need?
A kitchen needs a dedicated cooker circuit, a ring or radial circuit for sockets, fused spurs for integrated appliances and a separate lighting circuit.
Induction hobs often need a higher-rated cooker circuit than an older gas setup. Older Glasgow properties sometimes need a consumer unit upgrade before new circuits are added. All new work is tested and certified on completion.
How is gas handled?
Gas in a kitchen installation is capped, moved or reconnected only by a Gas Safe registered engineer, with a safety check on completion.
Many Glasgow clients switch from gas to induction during a full installation. In that case the gas supply is capped safely and the cooker circuit is upgraded to suit the new hob.
How is extraction planned?
Extraction is planned at design stage: ducted to an outside wall where possible, or recirculating with charcoal filters where no outside wall is reachable.
Tenement kitchens with internal walls often use recirculating hoods. Ducted extraction needs a core through the external wall, which on a tenement needs factor or owner consent.
Where do you start a complete kitchen project?
