Kitchen Installation Process in Glasgow

The kitchen installation process in Glasgow runs in three linked stages: design and survey, removal and strip-out, and fitting through to final sign-off, over 8 to 12 weeks in total.

TL;DR

  • Stage 1 — design and survey: weeks 1–2, ends with a signed fixed-price plan.
  • Stage 2 — off-site manufacture: weeks 3–6, your existing kitchen stays in use.
  • Stage 3 — on-site fitting: strip-out, first fix, cabinets, worktops, second fix, snag.
  • Templating adds a 7–10 day gap for stone and quartz worktops mid-install.
  • Sign-off is a documented snag walk and handover pack, not just a handshake.

What is the first stage of a Glasgow kitchen install?

The first stage is design and survey, a two-week programme that ends with a signed fixed-price plan and a start date.

Design and survey begins with a home visit, laser-measured plans, appliance selection and two rounds of layout revision. It ends with a signed contract, a payment schedule and a provisional install slot. Nothing is manufactured until you sign off the final drawings.

What happens during off-site manufacture?

During off-site manufacture the cabinetry is built to your specification in a factory while your existing kitchen stays fully in use.

Typical UK cabinetry lead times are four to six weeks. During this window you carry on cooking as normal — no disruption. The fitter uses the gap to schedule trades, book parking permits with Glasgow City Council if needed, and confirm delivery access for your street or tenement close.

What is the on-site fitting stage?

The on-site fitting stage is the disruptive part — strip-out, first fix, cabinet install, worktop template, second fix, appliances, snag and clean.

A like-for-like refit runs 10–15 working days on site. Reconfigurations that move walls run 3–5 weeks because plaster needs to dry and Building Standards inspections must be booked. The lead fitter runs a daily 15-minute update so you always know what happens the next day.

Why does templating add a gap mid-install?

Templating adds a 7–10 working day gap because stone, quartz and solid-surface worktops must be measured after the cabinets are physically fitted, then cut off-site.

The fitter plans a temporary timber worktop and a working hob and sink for the templating gap wherever possible, so you can still cook basic meals. Laminate worktops skip the gap because they are cut on site.

What happens at final sign-off in Glasgow?

Final sign-off is a formal snag walk, appliance demo, handover pack and settlement of the final invoice — not a casual handshake.

The handover pack contains appliance manuals and warranties, electrical (EICR / minor works) certificates from a SELECT or NICEIC registered electrician, a Gas Safe notice for any gas work, cabinet manufacturer guarantees, worktop care instructions and a signed snag list. Retentions on final payment are released once every snag is closed.

Frequently asked questions

A Glasgow kitchen installation has three main stages: design and survey (weeks 1–2), off-site manufacture (weeks 3–6), and on-site fitting from strip-out through to sign-off (weeks 7–10).

You need to be at home on day one for the strip-out briefing, on templating day for the worktop supplier, and on handover day to sign off snags. On other days a key-safe or nominated contact is enough.

Yes. Most tenement and semi-detached kitchen installs in Glasgow are done with the household in occupation. The fitter isolates the kitchen area, sets up a temporary hand-wash and reconnects the fridge daily.

The lead fitter manages the trades, sequences the electrician, plumber, gas engineer, plasterer and worktop templater and reports progress to you and to Glasgow Kitchen Fitters against the written plan.
